Larger Than Life - Relay For Life - ZF&A

Last Saturday, Jose, Paul and myself were part of something bigger and as important as anything we've ever done! We wanted to share this tremendous event with you.
El Segundo rallied around its first ever "Relay 4 Life" a special fundraising event for the American Cancer Society honoring the victims and survivors of Cancer. For 24 hours, camps of fundraisers walked, ran, trotted, wheeled or pushed wagons around the high school track as the finale of a joint fundraising effort. Participating camps were represented by the likes of Raytheon, American Airlines, Curves and Chevron - not to mention individual groups of cancer survivors, their families and friends.

The community pitched in to provide refreshments for this 24-hour rally. People coming and going to relay their 'shift', many with kids and sleeping bags in tow. Every age, every size -it didn't matter. We were all there for 1 reason. It's not every day that you can feel like you're a part of something bigger and more important than your own problems - this was one of them. We performed to entertain the relay participants traveling the track - and anyone else we could convince to hang around the stage and listen. We provided CDs for donations and were happy to do our part for this great cause.

As you can see in the picture above, El Segundo raised a whopping $180,537 for the American Cancer Society.
Have we perked your interest? You too can help! You can still make online donations on their website http://www.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=216911

Next Year?
We're thinking of hosting our own camp for next year (I've already spoken for the afternoon shift) -and yes, the band is booked for 2008! Contact Chris Knoll at 310-607-9130 to see how you can join the fun and contribute - We hope you can join us! - Jean Fritz
